Cellular Animal Culture

Cell culture technologies that have been increasingly used to produce cells and tissues for human therapeutic use are now being used by the food sector to create products that resemble conventional meat and poultry – including seafood.

Two such companies working in fish and seafood products are Finless Foods and BlueNalu, both located in California, U.S.

As advances continue in this arena, many important technical and regulatory issues will emerge. Consumers and the animal producing industry will have increasing questions on the potential hazards, oversight considerations, labeling of cell cultured food products, and much more

CAIA has been in contact with various other animal producing sectors in Canada on this and will continue to track developments on behalf of its members.
